We learned about hearing at Farm Safety this week. We learned about the parts of our ears. Did you know that there are tiny hairs in your ears that help you hear? We got to measure different sounds. 85 dB is too loud! It is important to protect your ears. We had fun and learned a lot!

Last week we learned about and explored using chalk pastels. The students had fun experimenting with the chalk pastels, making spooky Halloween scenes, colourful skylines, and blended images.
Take a look at these young artists hard at work! An In Science, we have been busy learning all about soil. To help us organize our ideas and show what we know, we created webs about the particles in soil. Now that we have iPads in our classroom, we were able to use the app Popplet to create our webs. Check them out! The pictures of the webs are a little small, so you will see PDF files listed below. Click on the links to view the webs. Please keep in mind that we are still learning how to use the app to represent information. There will be more to come! (And I will upload the last 5 webs as soon as I can!)
On Friday, we bid farewell to our classroom worms. We thanked them for providing us with rich and engaging learning experiences.
We returned them to the soil and celebrated with a special treat. Do you know what to do if there is a fire? Yesterday we went to the Fire Hall for Fire Safety. There were three firefighters there. They talked to us about hearing the beep where you sleep. It was loud when the smoke detector was in the room! We should check our smoke detectors at home!
Welcome back to school! And welcome to Grade 3! We started our school year with a little team building! Check out some of the pictures from our activity! We sure had fun communicating and working together. We are a team, and I look forward to the many things we will accomplish together! When the students wanted to learn more about worms, I knew I had to call in some help! (I tend to stay as far away as possible from creepy, crawly, slimy bugs!) We needed Mr. Munro! Mr. Munro brought a microscope as well as a brain full of knowledge and interesting facts to our classroom! We learned so much about worms and we really enjoyed taking a closer look at the worms. I hope to extend this learning experience, so check back to see what other plans Mr. Munro and I have in store! Last week, we read a selection all about worms and ants. We then compared these interesting creatures using a Venn diagram. Everyone was so interested and wanted to know more! Luckily, it was a cloudy and rainy day and we were able to find some worms to bring into the classroom for closer examination! We need a worm expert. Check back to see who we called! |
